Book one in the new Fallen Isles trilogy. This book shows some absolutely incredible world building!! We have a group of seven islands and one giant mainland that are described in vivid detail as needed. A treaty was made on the day the main character was born changing the lifestyle of the island residents and Mira is raised as the spoke person for the treaty whether she wants to be or not since it is named after her. Things are great until she stumbles across information she should not have and tells it to people that she thought she could trust. Instead of helping to fix the problem those in charge send her to prison where she faces a world completely unknown to her where she has to find allies and just do whatever she can to survive (which gets a little iffy a few times). There are quite a few twists and turns along the way that lead up to an incredible story that I am totally hooked on now. The end holds a few more surprises which sets things up quite nicely for book two which cannot get her fast enough. I highly recommend this book to fans of YA fantasy novels that have a strong female heroine. I really enjoyed it so it gets 4/5 stars.
