*I received a free copy of this book from the author which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.
Book five in the Beanie & Cruiser Mystery series. Beanie is disturbed when a company starts clearing all of the trees around her cabin but no sooner does it start then it stops. She thinks this is a good thing until she is walking Cruiser and Calamity (she is dog sitting for her daughter who adopted her after the last book) when they drag her straight to a dead body. It just happens to be the man that was running the awful machine. As if that is not bad enough another man gets injured when a tree explodes in his face. All this interests in the trees leads to one convoluted investigation that sneaks in around the dog care sections of the book. I like the blend of the modern and Indian traditions that happen because Beanie is part Native American. I can admit that I am enjoying the characters by this point as they seem to keep evolving and changing over time. The investigation follows a nice path that is easy to follow that a little drawn out at times. The twists and turns along the way make for some surprises that I did not see coming. If you enjoy a good cozy mystery that has a slightly slower pace to it and lots of doggie parts this is the series for you. I enjoyed reading it so I give it 3/5 stars.
