Character Interview
Character Name: Nick Charles
Tell us a little bit about
yourself—both something we learn from A Purr Before Dying and something that
readers might not guess?
I’m a handsome, slightly portly
tuxedo cat with a flair for detection! I
originally belonged to a PI—Nick Atkins—but when he went MIA, I had to find
another place to live. I turned up on
Nora Charles’s doorstep one night, and while it wasn’t love at first sight, I
eventually won her over!
Something you learn in A Purr
Before Dying, and also that readers might not guess about me, is . . . I’m a ham at heart! I was thrilled to get a small part in the
soap opera filming in Cruz. I don’t want
to give away too many details. You’ll have to read the story to find out more!
How did you first meet your writer?
I’m based on my writer’s real-life cat. She met him when she was looking for a
companion for her other male cat, Maxx (he kept chasing her other two older
lady cats around). She saw his photo on the Clifton animal shelter website and
decided that he was the perfect choice!
Which of course he was, seeing as he inspired me!!!!!
Want to dish about him/her?
She’s a lovely woman, and I think it’s amazing how she manages to
come up with all these adventures for us to solve – and, of course, make moi the hero!
Why do you think that your life has ended up being in a book?
I’m an interesting cat with a lot of personality! How could I NOT be in a book? Plus, I have the uncanny ability to spell out clues using
Scrabble Tiles. My background is a bit
murky, but my writer plans to explore that in depth in a future volume.
Who's your favorite character?
Why?
I’d have to say Nora’s BFF,
Chantal. She’s always fussing over me. The
only thing that bugs me is when she wants me to try on those pet collars she
makes. Uck!
Who's your least favorite
character? Why?
Hm. Right now Daniel Corleone is my least
favorite character, because of the way he left Nora. I know it was for his job, but still!
What's next for you?
Our next adventure is A Purr
Before Dying—murder at a local soap opera filming! We get involved when Chantal’s brother is
accused of the crime! And next year . . .
Bell, Book and Murder . . . a Halloween tale! Spooky, I promise you! There
might even be a real vampire involved!

More details to come
No one’s who they seem in the thrilling new Nick and Nora Mystery, and someone’s playing the part of a clever killer . . .
When a nighttime soap opera comes to town to film an episode, no one’s more excited than Nora Charles, who’s landed the contract for catering the shoot. But if she thought the show’s plotlines were full of drama and intrigue, that’s nothing compared to what she witnesses among the cast and crew, who are sneaking off for secret liaisons one minute and at each other’s throats the next. It’s all a titillating behind-the-scenes look for Nora—until she stumbles across the body of the show’s slain director.
It’s not long before the local authorities finger the brother of Nora’s good friend for the evil deed, and it’s up to Nora and her sidekick Nick to get him off the hook. As she begins to sort out the cast’s romantic entanglements and professional rivalries looking for a motive, she also discovers that the victim was involved in the mysterious death of the show’s previous director.
And then another member of the crew is found murdered, and Nora knows she’ll have to act fast to figure out who’s playing the part of the killer, before she’s cast in the role of the next victim . . .
REVIEW
*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.
A fabulous addition to the fun cozy mystery series. It can be read on its own but it is so much better if you have read them in order. It allows you the chance to get attached to all of the quirky residents of this adorable town. This time there is a bunch of excitement over a popular nighttime soap opera that is filming there. The soap comes with plenty of drama and infighting creating quite the environment but it just gets worse when Nora's kitty Nick finds the director murdered with the cops pointing at Jer friends brother. So of course Nora has to investigate with the help of her sidekick Nick creating a story that you won't want to put down. I really liked it so I give it 4/5 stars.
About T.C. LoTempio
While Toni Lotempio does not commit – or solve – murders in real life, she has no trouble doing it on paper. Her lifelong love of mysteries began early on when she was introduced to her first Nancy Drew mystery at age 10 – The Secret in the Old Attic. She and her cat pen the Nick and Nora mystery series originally from Berkley Prime Crime and now with Beyond the Page Publishing. They also write the Cat Rescue series from Crooked Lane and the Pet Shop series, originally published by Midnight Ink and rebranded last year as “Urban Tails Pet Shop Mysteries.” Book six in the Nick and Nora mysteries, A PURR BEFORE DYING, is released this February from Beyond the Page. There is also a new series, Tiffany Austin Food Blogger, coming out in April.
