A Talent for Temptation by Sabrina Jeffries

*I received a free copy of this book from Netgalley which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.

Book 4.5 (a novella) in the Sinful Suitors series. Having read all the books so far in this series of course I had to read this one too. Since this is a short novella the romance is short, sweet, and to the point. This is helped by the fact that couple is already have a romance with one another but Meriel believes that she would be an unsuitable wife so she thinks that is all it can be. Quinn totally disagrees with her and sets up a fake kidnapping so he can play the hero which leads to the chain of events that was really needed for these two to get together forever. While short the story is still great on details and the romance follows a nice progression. Emotions run high and it is easy to get lost in the story until you find yourself on the last page wishing there were more. This is a really good historical romance novella that I recommend to fans of the series or genre itself. I really enjoyed it so it gets 4/5 stars.

Barking Up the Wrong Tree by Jenn McKinlay

Book two in the Bluff Point Romance series/trilogy not sure which. This is an absolutely amazing romance novel. I loved every minute of it and was actually upset when I finished it. After losing her job Carly is forced to move back to Bluff Point along with some colorful pets she happened to inherit. With a huge fear of commitment she prefers one night stand and goes looking for one to make her feel better. Enter James who has been in love with her for years though she does not know that. He thinks all his dreams have come true until the next morning. he is determined to make her his and what follows is the most backwards romance I have read in awhile with the crazy pets thrown in for comic relief. The book is extremely well written making the reader root for the couple and I even fell in love with the cussing bird who loves to say the most inappropriate things ever in front of company. I loved it so it gets 5/5 stars.

How to Tame a Beast in Seven Days by Kerrelyn Sparks

Book one in the Embraced series. This book takes us to a whole new world that is made of five kingdoms. Four are in the main land and the fifth consists of two islands far out to sea. The mainland kingdoms worship men Gods and destroy any that possess magic. The island kingdom worships the Goddesses and welcome those with magic. Any born on the two nights of the year that the two moons line up are born with magical powers and are called the embraced. Luciana was sent to the island as an infant to hide her powers and the fact that she is a twin. This was fine until the King orders her sister to marry his nephew and she dies before she can. This make father desperate so he goes after Luciana who grudgingly agrees to play along to save all their lives. What follows is one of the most comical romances ever because the nephew is embraced as well. Only he is powered by lighting making it impossible for any to touch him. This would make married life a little complicated which I was interested to see how the author solved that one. The answer is ingenious and adds a nice touch to the story overall. This is an excellent fantasy romance novel that I highly recommend to fans of that genre especially if you like magic. The characters are easy to love, the world building is great without too much detail, and the writing is smooth making it impossible to stop turning the pages. I really enjoyed it so it gets 4/5 stars.

Kitty Hawk and the Curse of the Yukon Gold by Iain Reading

Book one in the new Kitty Hawk Flying Detective Agency series. This book takes quite a bit to really get started though in its defense it does build a nice basis for the plot itself. The story describes a wide range of adventures that our heroine goes on providing quite a bit of historical detail on the it goes along. This made me feel like I was really getting to know the Yukon area and it also helps build another layer for the plot itself. Overall I felt like this was really good adventure story that has a historical note to it. I recommend it to fans of adventure, female heroines , or aviation fans as it touches all of those genres quite nicely. I enjoyed reading it so  I give it 3/5 stars.

A Snow Country Christmas by Linda Lael Miller

Book four in the Carsons of Mustang Creek series though I will admit neither main character was still officially a Carson. For this book we get to learn more about Raine the mother of Slater's daughter. It is Christmas Eve and Mick (Slater's movie executive) asks for a business dinner with Raine. While he does have a business proposal his real intentions are to let her know how much he really likes her. What follows is a really fast courtship that only last for the holiday week before they each know they are destined to be together. In usual Linda fashion the story kept me hooked from the very first page. The western setting (with lots of nice little details) works well with the romance and the arching story line has had me hooked for a long time now. I look forward to each new installment as she pulls me into the western world in a way that makes me feel like I actually lived there at some point though I never have. I highly recommend this book to fans of modern day western romances and give it 4/5 stars since I really enjoyed reading it.

Dial Meow for Murder by Bethany Blake

Book two in the Lucky Paws Pet Sitting Mystery series. I became attached to Daphne and Socrates in the first book and this one just made me even more so. As they are gearing up for giant fundraising event in their small town the main organizer is found dead in her bath tub. She leaves behind a cat that seems rather evil to begin with. Daphne just happens to be the one to find her since she was actually searching for the missing cat at the time and the prevailing theory is that it was a suicide. This idea is reinforced by the note left on the kitchen counter though it offers some very vague instructions regarding cat care as well as claiming she left town. Through no fault of her own Daphne ends up involved and adopting the cat which has the most comical personality ever as it dive bombs visitors though he seems attached to Daphne by the end of the book. This is a wonderful cozy mystery that is filled with the right touch of mystery, suspense, whimsy, cute animals, and strong  characters that are easy to love. This is a must read for fans of cozy mysteries that are also animal lovers. I am absolutely loving each and every page of this series so this book gets 5/5 stars. Now if the next book would only come sooner.

Dark Legacy by Christine Feehan

Book twenty-seven in the Dark/Carpathian series. Gotta love a good Carpathian book. I have been hooked on this series since the very first book and this one did not disappoint. We are still following the men from the monastery who have been waiting a really long time for their life-mates. Emmeline thinks she is the life-mate of a horrible master vampire and after saving the kids in the last books she is infected with their parasites which makes her isolate herself from the others at the compound including her best friend Blade. When the master returns for her she meets her true life-mate during the battle that follows and what follows is one of the sweetest courtship to happen in one of these books for quite some time. I liked how they really got to know one another before all the physical stuff and the evolution of the constant fighting provided a nice backdrop to the whole story while providing yet another addition to the arching story line that has been going on for a while now. I really enjoyed this book and recommend it to fans of supernatural romance novels that contain suspense at the same time. I give it 4/5 stars.

When the Marquess Met His Match by Laura Lee Guhrke

Book one in the American Heiress in London series. This book had me cracking up at these two bicker back and forth with one another. That should have been their first clue that they actually liked one another more than they should have. This is the first time I have read a book where the son of a Duke is cut completely off from his money until he marries an acceptable woman. I liked the fact that he refused to cave instead looking for a woman that he would actually enjoy instead. Hiring a match maker would have been a good idea if she would not have known him from the past. Grudges are hard to get over but love has the way to ignore everything which is what totally happened in this case. It was also quite nice how they each managed to change for one another in order to make things work. Overall this was a really good romance novel that flowed smoothly while taking the reader on the emotional ride of the characters throughout all of their ups and downs. The historical accuracy seems pretty good and I enjoyed how events played out in a logical sequence instead of speeding up or skipping around. I highly recommend this to fans of historical romance novels with a regency settings. I really enjoyed it so it gets 4/5 stars.
