Some look to me for guidance; others look at me in envy.
Yet, no one knows my internal struggles – the nightmares that plagued me for cycles or the emotions that clawed at my very soul.
Everyone assigns me a role in their mind, without knowing my past, ignoring the present and attempting to predetermine my future.
I’m tired of such assumptions, craving for my tale to be heard.
It’s time to share my story and how one girl changed my world.
Recommended for 18+ audience, containing mature sexual content, violence and strong language. TRIGGER WARNING- Anyone who has dealt with self-harm should NOT read this book. You have been warned.

EXCERPT:
“Rydey! I’m ready!” Rosalina yelled from down the hall.
I shook my head, making my way to her room. I watched as she jumped on her bed— a bedtime ritual she did to make her bed fluffier, or so she believed.
“I’m gonna be six tomorrow! I can marry Rydey!” she sang.
I blushed, trying to ignore the increase in my heart rate. “Who said you can marry me when you’re six?” I asked.
“Kadey! He said I can marry whoever I want as long as he said it was okay. So, I claimed you!” She pointed at me as she jumped up and down.
“And he’s fine with me being your husband?”
“Yup. He said as long as you treat me right and beat Xavier in arm wres-wresssss- the arm game,” she announced.
“I can’t beat Xavier in arm wrestling. He’s a pro.”
She stopped jumping looking devastated. “So…we can’t get married?” she asked, her eyes beginning to grow glossy.
I lifted my hands in defense, shaking my head. “We can! I’ll beat him! Just gonna take me some time to train my arm strength.”
“YEAH! I’m gonna marry Rydey, he’s gonna be my prince and knight!” she sang, returning to jumping on her bed.

Book Blitz & Giveaway for Shadow of the Swan by Judith Sterling

Shadow of the Swan
Judith Sterling
(The Novels of Ravenwood #3)
Publication date: January 31st 2018
Genres: Historical, Romance
Lady Constance de Bret was determined to be a nun, until shadows from the past eclipsed her present. Marriage is the safest option, but she insists on a spiritual union, in which physical intimacy is forbidden. Not so easy with a bridegroom who wields unparalleled charm! But a long-buried secret could taint his affection and cloak her in shadow forever.
Back from the Crusades, Sir Robert le Donjon craves a home of his own and children to inherit it. From the moment he meets Constance, he feels a mysterious bond between them. When she’s threatened, he vows to protect her and agrees to the spiritual marriage, with the hope of one day persuading her to enjoy a “real” one. She captivates him but opens old wounds and challenges everything he thought he believed.
Two souls in need of healing. Two hearts destined to beat as one.
EXCERPT:
Robert turned to Constance but said nothing.
After a moment, she met his gaze. “Why do you stare at me?”
He grinned. “On the morrow, I want to show you something.”
“What?”
“You’ll see.”
Her eyes narrowed. “Why won’t you tell me?”
“’Tis a surprise.”
“I don’t like surprises.”
“Neither do I, on the whole. But you’ll like this one.” He reached toward his belt.
She stepped back. “What are you doing?”
“Undressing.” He set his belt on the table.
Her stomach dropped. “Why?”
“Aren’t you the suspicious one?” He pulled off his boots. “’Tis customary to doff one’s clothes at bedtime.”
She whirled around, turning her back on him. “I slept fully clothed at the nunnery.” She stared hard at the stone wall.
“I hate to state the obvious, but this isn’t a nunnery.”
“Well, how do you sleep?”
“Naked, of course.”
Heat flooded her cheeks and forehead. “Is that necessary?”
“I could wear my breeches.”
She sighed. Whew!
“On one condition.” His tone was loaded with meaning beyond her grasp.
What condition? What does he want from me?
She turned to face him. Apart from his calf-length breeches, he was nude. Her gaze locked onto his chest.
Sculpted by combat. Scarred by war. Covered with black hair.
“Any objection?” His voice was soft, deep.
She forced her gaze to his eyes. They looked darker now. Was it a trick of the light?
He’s waiting for an answer. Say something! “No.”
“Good.”
“How did you undress so fast?”
“The battlefield teaches one to do everything fast.” His eyes sparkled. “Well, not everything.”
Did her heart still beat? She couldn’t tell. His tone was so suggestive.
“You blush, my lady.”
Her hands flew to her cheeks. “And whose fault is that?”
He gave her a rueful smile. “Mine. But if we’re to be friends, I have to speak honestly.”
“About sexual matters?”
“About all matters. Can you live with that?”
She hesitated, then gave him a nod. “I can. And in that vein, what is the condition you proposed?”
“Right. If I’m to smother myself with added linen—”
“Breeches, Sir Robert. They’re just breeches.”
He cocked an eyebrow. “So say you. But if I do that, you must sleep in your chemise only.”
Her jaw dropped. Then she frowned. “Why?”
“For the sake of comfort.”
“I’m comfortable clad.”
He looked down, and his fingers seized the tie to his breeches. “Fine. If you’d rather I drop my—”
“Stop!” She grumbled. “Very well. I’ll sleep in my chemise.”
He smiled. “I’ll go lie in bed and shut my eyes, if you’d like.”
“I would like.”
“Do you prefer one side of the bed to the other?”
She shrugged. “It matters not.”
“Then I lay claim to the left.”
As soon as the bed creaked beneath his weight, she removed her headdress. Then she disrobed as quickly as she could and scurried to the bed.
“Why such haste?” he asked as she slid beneath the covers.
“My feet are cold.”
“Mine are warm. You’re welcome to—”
“No, Sir Robert. I’ll warm up soon enough.”

Surrender by Joan Johnston.

Surrender

*I received a free copy of this book from Netgalley which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for. Expected publication date is February 27, 2018.

Book eleven in the Bitter Creek series and book three in the King's Brats series which of course are intertwined with one another. In the interest of full disclosure I fell in the love with the Bitter Creek series years ago when I picked up the very first book The Cowboy and have enjoyed each new installment since then. I love series where we get to follow a family through multiple generations. Joan never disappoints when it comes to this. For this installment we get Taylor Grayhawk's story as she finds her way to one of the "Flynn boys." Being members of two feuding families has to be tough but thanks to the overlaps of the couples from the first two books things are a tiny bit smoother by this point. These two are trapped in a forest fire after having to jump from a dead plane. Their survival is amazing with lots of plot twists, and after the rescue is just as intriguing as the two of them fight their feelings for one another. If you enjoy excellent contemporary romance novels with a western flare to them (they are all set in the Western United States) you really have to try this book or the whole series in my opinion. I loved every single minute of this book so I give it 5/5 stars.

Book Blast, Review, & Giveaway for Searching for Gertrude by D.E. Haggerty

Searching for Gertrude

by D.E. Haggerty

Searching for Gertrude
Historical Romance
Self Published (January 22, 2018)
Print Length: 278 pages
ASIN: B077P28WDK
While growing up in Germany in the 1930s, Rudolf falls in love with the girl next door, Gertrude. He doesn’t care what religion Gertrude practices, but the Nazis do. When the first antisemitic laws are enacted by the Nazi government, Gertrude’s father loses his job at the local university. Unable to find employment in Germany, he accepts a position at Istanbul University and moves the family to Turkey. Rudolf, desperate to follow Gertrude, takes a position as a consulate worker in Istanbul with the very government which caused her exile. With Rudolf finally living in the same city as Gertrude, their reunion should be inevitable, but he can’t find her. During his search for Gertrude, he stumbles upon Rosalyn, an American Jew working as a nanny in the city. Upon hearing his heartbreaking story, she immediately agrees to help him search for his lost love. Willing to do anything in their search for Gertrude, they agree to work for a British intelligence officer who promises his assistance, but his demands endanger Rudolf and Rosalyn. As the danger increases and the search for Gertrude stretches on, Rudolf and Rosalyn grow close, but Rudolf gave his heart away long ago.

I grew up reading everything I could get my grubby hands on, from my mom's Harlequin romances, to Nancy Drew, to Little Women. When I wasn't flipping pages in a library book, I was penning horrendous poems, writing songs no one should ever sing, or drafting stories which have thankfully been destroyed. College and a stint in the U.S. Army came along, robbing me of free time to write and read, although on the odd occasion I did manage to sneak a book into my rucksack between rolled up socks, MRIs, t-shirts, and cold weather gear. After surviving the army experience, I went back to school and got my law degree. I jumped ship and joined the hubby in the Netherlands before the graduation ceremony could even begin. A few years into my legal career, I was exhausted, fed up, and just plain done. I quit my job and sat down to write a manuscript, which I promptly hid in the attic after returning to the law. But being a lawyer really wasn’t my thing, so I quit (again!) and went off to Germany to start a B&B. Turns out being a B&B owner wasn’t my thing either. I polished off that manuscript languishing in the attic before following the husband to Istanbul where I decided to give the whole writer-thing a go. But ten years was too many to stay away from my adopted home. I packed up again and moved to The Hague where I’m currently working on my next book. I hope I’ll always be working on my next book. Searching for Gertrude is my twelfth book.

REVIEW

*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.

Well this book sure is different. We get to meet Rudolf who grew up in Germany during the years of Hitler's reign. This allowed him to provide us with valuable insight into life for German citizens at that time with an emphasis on the treatment of the Jews. He fell in love with the neighbor girl who was a Jew and when her family was forced to flee the country he vows to find her no matter what he has to do. On the other side of the story is Rosalyn an American that wishes to help the Jews in their horrible situations so she takes a job as a nanny to a Jewish family that fled to Turkey. This country is where the tow parts of this story meets as the two of them work together to find Rudolf's lost love and Rosalyn helps her family. What the two do not realize is the strange romance going on at the exact same time. This story is just full of historical details that really give the reader a sense of the life that the people in Europe were leading during this dark time in history. It provides an excellent backdrop for this information that keeps the reader wondering what the two characters will discover next. Great for fans of historical romance novels that are slightly different from the norm. I really enjoyed it so it gets 4/5 stars.

Robin Patchen writes contemporary Christian suspense, romance, and romantic suspense. Her books are often set in New England, where she grew up. She creates strong, protective heroes and intelligent, courageous heroines.

Aside from her family and her Savior, Robin Patchen has two loves—writing and traveling. If she could combine them, she’d spend a lot of time sitting in front of her laptop at sidewalk cafes and ski lodges and beachside burger joints. She’d visit every place in the entire world—twice, if possible—and craft stories and tell people about her Savior. Alas, time is too short and money is too scarce for Robin to traipse all over the globe, even if her husband and kids wanted to go with her. So she stays in Oklahoma, shares the Good News when she can, and writes to illustrate the unending grace of God through the power and magic of story.
