Blog Tour, Character Interview, Review, & Giveaway for Designs on Murder by Gayle Leeson

Character Name: Amanda Tucker

Tell us a little bit about yourself--both something we learn from [the story] and something that readers might not guess?
I love retro fashion. I think the fashions of the 30s, 40s, and 50s are flattering to a wider variety of people. Something readers might not guess about me? Hmm…that’s kind of tough because I feel like my life is an open book. But readers might be surprised to learn that I’m more comfortable around older people than people my own age sometimes. Maybe I’m one of those people who have an “old soul.”

How did you first meet your writer?
I first met Gayle when she was looking through some photographs of fashion styles that were popular in the 40s, I believe, and she was wondering why they don’t make clothes like that anymore. I popped in and asked her why she didn’t make her own. She said, “I can’t. But you can.

Want to dish about him/her?
Well, don’t tell anyone I told you so, but Gayle can only sew by hand. She’d love to be able to make her own clothes, but she simply can’t. When she worked at the Virginia Worker’s Compensation Commission, a plaintiff from a sewing factory had suffered a terrible injury, and it made Gayle afraid of sewing machines. I’ve told her that was a fluke; but then she visited a local factory where they make jeans, and more than one of the women told her about how many times they’d sewed through a finger. That did not help my cause.

Why do you think that your life has ended up being in a book?
I think it’s because of Max. She’s a ghost. I don’t think many people have friends who are ghosts.

Who's your favorite character? Why?
Although I think the world of Max, I have to say that my favorite character is Grandpa Dave. He’s the sweetest man in the whole wide world and has been my champion my entire life.

Who's your least favorite character? Why?
Janice. She’s an outrageous flirt. And Max calls her a pillow case because her head is full of fluff.

What's next for you?
Gayle tells me there’s another book coming out this year, but she hasn’t told me much more than that. Stay tuned!

What if you discovered your lively new friend wasn't really...alive? Amanda Tucker is excited about opening her fashion design studio in Shops On Main, a charming old building in historic Abingdon, Virginia. She didn't realize a ghost came with the property! But soon Maxine "Max" Englebright, a young woman who died in 1930, isn't the only dead person at the retail complex. Mark Tinsley, a web designer with a know-it-all attitude who also rented space at Shops On Main, is shot in his office. Amanda is afraid that one of her new "friends" and fellow small business owners is his killer, and Max is encouraging her to solve Mark's murder a la Nancy Drew. Easy for Max to want to investigate--the ghostly fashionista can't end up the killer's next victim!
REVIEW
*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.

I have been a huge Leeson fan since the very first book of hers that I read so when I saw she was writing a new series I of course just had to try it. I was not disappointed!! Amanda is ready to make a big change in her life even if that is not what others expect her to do. She dives right into her new adventure with the help of her Grandpa she opens her own shop but before it can even have its grand opening a murder happens right upstairs. Well of course she has to get involved in things so her shop can be a success. This book is just full of charm, mystery, and characters we can all get attached to. I look forward to reading more in the series. I totally loved it so I give it 5/5 stars.
