Blog Tour Guest Post & Giveaway for Galliano Gold by Traci Andrighetti

I’m excited to be on the Books a Plenty Book Reviews blog today to tell you about Galliano Gold, the fifth mystery in the Franki Amato series. Actually, I should clarify—I’m going to tell you about one heck of a trip I took to New Orleans in 2018 that inspired a character and a scene in the book.
Last May I was asked to do a signing at Boutique du Vampyre on Royal Street in the French Quarter because Campari Crimson, the fourth Franki Amato mystery, takes place during Halloween and mentions the boutique. After the signing, I did a reading at the boutique owner’s other business, a secret vampire speakeasy on Bourbon Street. Incidentally, I’ll be at both places again this month, on October 19th.
But back to that NOLA trip.
You know those times when you meticulously plan something, and yet things go really wrong? Well, this trip was one for the ages. I went to New Orleans with a couple of writer friends two days before the signing. The night we got there, we had to leave the house I'd rented for us because it had wall units for air-conditioning that just didn’t work—it was 92 degrees in the bathroom. I called the owner, who came to the house, and I told her that we were leaving and wanted our money back. She got so mad that at one point she actually chased me around the bed and then locked me out of the house while half of my stuff was inside!
Long story short, I got my stuff back, and my friends and I checked in to a hotel in the French Quarter that cost twice as much as the house. The next day the sun was shining, and we thought our troubles were behind us when we went to a nice restaurant for lunch.
But no.
They weren’t.
Because a freak rainstorm struck out of nowhere and flooded the French Quarter—and the restaurant! The hostess urged us to put plastic umbrella bags on our feet and legs (the bacteria in the Quarter is nothing you want on your skin). Meanwhile, I called an Uber driver who said he could make it to the restaurant and get us back to our hotel. The water had risen to our knees as we climbed into a car that we hoped wouldn't float away.
It took 51 minutes to drive the mere four-tenths of a mile to our hotel. And while we were stuck in the flood in the Uber, my husband called to tell me that our fourteen-year-old dog had died. I cried another flood of tears in that Uber, practically on the driver’s shoulder.

When I came home to Austin where I live, I sent a newsletter to my readers, who were waiting to hear how the vampire signing and reading turned out. One of them, a lovely woman named Barbara, replied to my email and said that my experience sounded like the beginning of a new book. The ideas started swirling in my head—kind of like that French Quarter floodwater—and Galliano Gold was born.
In this mystery, PI Franki Amato has to go undercover to investigate a chilling homicide on an old Mississippi River steamboat that is rumored to be haunted. And there are some unsavory types who work on the boat with her (one of them is modeled after the owner of that house I rented). If you want to know how and when the flood happens, among other misadventures, you’ll have to read Galliano Gold.
And if you live in the New Orleans area, please come and meet me at Boutique du Vampyre at 2 p.m. on October 19th. I promise no one will bite you!

About Galliano Gold

Cozy Mystery 5th in Series
Limoncello Press (October 1, 2019)
Print Length: 327 pages
Digital ASIN: B07XXDC6X9
It’s Mardi Gras season in New Orleans, but PI Franki Amato has too many problems to celebrate. A proven Sicilian lemon tradition hasn’t landed her a proposal, so her nonna has amped up the meddling to get her married, and pronto. Franki’s also under pressure to solve the strange murder of a family friend’s nephew, Nick Pescatore, who was found on a Mississippi River steamboat rumored to be haunted. When the sinister old boat sets sail on an overnight gambling cruise, Franki goes undercover with a motley crew, including a Mark Twainophile captain with a murderous past and a slimy galley chef with a mobster brother, not to mention an ex-stripper landlady with a newfound career as a memoir writer and all-too public speaker. Franki has to figure out what missing Civil War gold, a playing card, and a mysterious woman on roller skates have to do with Nick’s death. If she doesn’t, it’s anchors aweigh for Franki—down to Davy Jones’ locker.
