Character Interview
1) Tell us a little bit about yourself--both
something we learn from [the story] and something that readers might not
guess?
My name is Emory Gosser Martinez and I’m 27 years old. I’m in the process of trying to reinvent my life after I was accused of murdering my best friend (well, ex-best friend after I caught her with my soon-to-be ex-husband). It didn’t take long for me to not only lose my husband and friend, but I lost my position as an accountant, and then my home. With no one to turn to, I allowed my mother (gulp) to call in some favors to secure housing and a job for me. I shudder to think what’s going to happen now that I’m beholden to Mother. Oh, she’s not a bad person at all and is in fact, well-respected in the community. You just don’t want to give her an inch or else she’ll be running your life the way she thinks is best.
So now I’m living in a pool house and providing meals and care for a feisty octogenarian, who by the way, has a more active social life than I’ll ever have. Tillie, my employer, has convinced me to start my own cupcake catering business specializing in cocktail cupcakes. I’ve never been much of an imbiber, aside from a glass of wine every now and then, so I’ve had to learn what different cocktails taste like and how to make them. Tillie and her gal pals have been enthusiastic mentors in this area. I think they spend hours on Pinterest trying to find the most obscure cocktails and then challenge me to create a cupcake recipe that mimics the flavors if not the potency. They pay me well so I can’t complain and it’s brought in a lot of cupcake orders from their extended circle of friends.

2) How
did you first meet your writer?
She was creating a Gimlet cupcake recipe to celebrate a friend’s birthday when I tapped on her shoulder and said she should be creating more cupcake recipes and put them in a book along with a murder or two. One thing led to another and after she had written over twenty cocktail cupcake recipes decided it was time to write my story.

3) Want
to dish about him/her?
When I suggested she create additional cupcake recipes and put them into a cozy mystery story, I didn’t intend for her to practically write an entire cookbook first. But, I found out she’d rather be in the kitchen baking than at her laptop writing my story. I’m pretty persistent though and here we are.

4)
Why do you think that your life has ended
up being in a book?
I think my life has given my writer an outlet for some of the heartbreaks she’s endured over the course of her life. Don’t get me wrong, she hasn’t had a bad life and truly the majority of folk have also experienced a bad marriage, a lost job, and humiliation at the hands of another person. My writer had to take my story one step further though and have me find a dead body and then be arrested for the murder. She swears it’s never happened to her but it makes me wonder…

5) Who's your favorite character? Why?
Tillie Skyler is my favorite character. Despite her age, she’s full of life and doesn’t let anything slow her down. She’s showing me how to live life despite disappointments and heartbreak, and on top of that, she loves my dog, Piper.

6) Who's your least favorite character?
Why?
It’s a toss-up between my soon-to-be ex-husband, Philip, and my ex-best friend, Tori. The ex part probably says it all.

7) What's next for you?
Tillie informed me that we’re hosting a Halloween costume party so I’ve been experimenting with some new autumn cocktail cupcake flavors. She and her friends recently found a cocktail on Pinterest called Poison Apple and wants me to turn it into a cake pop shaped like an apple. I’m not sure… would you eat something called Poison Apple?

Several people witness her very public altercation with her ex-friend. To make matters worse, Tori exacts her revenge by posting a fake photo of Emory in a compromising situation, which goes viral on social media. When Tori is found murdered, all signs point to Emory being the prime suspect.
With the police investigation focused on gathering evidence to convict her, Emory must prove her innocence while whipping up batches of cupcakes and buttercream. REVIEW
*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.
This book was so much fun to read! It starts with Emory waking up on her bathroom floor after a night out with no memory at all of what hsppened. When her husband doesn't come home after his shift she tries to reach her best friend to no avail. So she goes to her house only to find hubby there in a compromising situation. What follows is the implosion of her life with the her becoming the prime suspect when her best friend turns up murdered. A crazy investigation follows with twists and turns keeping you guessing. Emory is a hilarious character with a true flair for baking which really brings the story to life. Looks to be a fun series that I will thoroughly enjoy. A must read for fans of copies with a culinaty/baking theme. I totally loved it so I give it 5/5 stars.
