Good afternoon! I’m Edna, town historian and the head librarian at the Destiny Falls Library. In any location, being a librarian is a powerful job. Overseeing millions of the world’s written words is a significant responsibility. In the enchanted Destiny Falls library, my job takes things to the next level. It is as important as a sentry guarding diamonds, though my treasure is far more valuable than jewels.
My daily job is like most librarians. Shelving books, aiding patrons, filing. But then I have my important, and rarely known tasks. I guard and tend all books here, and the number is infinite. Need a book on a topic? The library will provide. I also am keeper of the keys to the private book room. The library decides admittance, not everyone can enter. I’m especially happy on those days when I can enter and enjoy its splendor.
The library and I have a special bond. It’s hard to explain and even harder to see, but it’s powerful.
I guess the real beauty of my job is that it’s different every day, and secrets present themselves at the right moment, to the right person. And best of all, I guest to spend my days in the most glorious of places. A library.
Hayden loves libraries, too. I’d like to share a short excerpt from Falling in Magic, when she tells of the first time she visited our very special library.
I remember the first day I got my own library card. I was so proud when I took out my first stack of books. One had a picture of a husky dog on the cover, I can still see it in my mind’s eye. After that, either Nana or Gran would take me once a week. We had a blue plastic basket that held about forty books. They said the library was there to be used, and we took full advantage. To this day, just walking into a library fills me with so many happy feelings.
I walked up to the building and enjoyed the sweet, typical small-town library appeal. A yellow painted building with white pillars on either side of the entry. The word Library hanging above the front door. A neatly trimmed lawn edged in flowers along the walkway. A flag flying in the breeze.
I opened the door, stepped inside, and my jaw dropped. I stepped back outside and looked at the building’s façade. Still a quaint small-town library. It even had lace curtains in the windows. I went back inside. In and out twice more, just to help my brain wrap around what I was seeing.
About Old Bones and Ice Cream Cones
A boyfriend who’s missing. Or was. . . Or is. . . A boat full of old bones. A community ice cream social. A friend in trouble, a spiteful witch, and an angry villain. The mysteries and fun abound in Destiny Falls. Hayden, Latifa, and their family and friends are up for the excitement and adventure.
Old Bones and Ice Cream Cones follows the series format of combining two stories that blend into one. A murder mystery and the island mystery.
The Island Mystery: Hayden’s boyfriend Han is missing. But she swears she saw him zoom by in his car. She’d thought it was a surprise, and that he was home early from his secret service case. She was wrong. The surprise is that his signal isn’t pinging, and no one knows where he is. There appears to be black magic behind his disappearance. Can they learn who’s responsible and bring Han safely home?
The Murder Mystery: A pile of old bones is found in an ancient fishing boat. They could be tied to the disappearance of two young women years ago, back when many of the Destiny Falls people where in high school. Many of the citizens had bad history with the missing students. Do the bones belong to them, and what happened? Were the they murdered? And could the murderer be living among them?
Hayden and Latifa’s many adventures in Destiny Falls will keep you guessing with each book in this fun and intriguing series.
