Excerpt:
I was in a special kind of hell. The stage lights glared down on me, making beads of sweat form along the back of my neck as Principal Kiln droned on about school spirit and unity and the heart of Rixon High—the football team. The room erupted with cheers and catcalls and Zara lapped it all up as she stood beside me, preening in her crown as if it was the real damn thing. “Aaron.” She grabbed my hand and hissed, “Can you at least look happy to be here.” I flashed her a sarcastic grin, so over her bullshit. But I would never forgive myself if she went after Poppy because of me. She tsked, rolling her eyes at me as she waved at her friends standing up front. Jesus. Cole and Ezra were right. I never should have agreed to this. My gaze began to wander, searching for Poppy. After we’d come back inside the gym, we’d gone our separate ways. But I hadn’t been able to stop myself from stealing glances at her all night. Even as she talked and laughed with Eli. Especially as she smiled at him and all the interesting things he no doubt had to tell her. Sofia looked more than happy chatting to his two friends. I wanted to go over there and hang out with them. Not Zara or half the cheer team or even the guys from the football team. I wanted my sister and my friend. My Poppy Star. But I was Homecoming King, and everyone wanted a piece of me. Even if the crown was fake and the King was a failure.

Will you survive senior year? Poppy Ford has been in love with her best friend forever. But she’s firmly in the friend zone and fears she may never get out.   Aaron Bennet has been dreaming of a football scholarship forever. But he’s not the Rixon Raiders star player, and he never will be. While Aaron is focused on proving himself, Poppy is hoping he’ll finally wake up and see what’s right in front of him. He doesn’t want to lose his best friend. She doesn’t want to lose senior year to a boy who doesn’t want her. But fate has other ideas for them. And when hearts get broken and dreams get shattered, will their friendship be strong enough to survive?   Or will the ties that bind them finally unravel?

About the Author:
Author of over thirty mature young adult and new adult novels, LA COTTON is happiest writing the kind of books she loves to read: addictive stories full of teenage angst, tension, twists and turns.   Home is a small town in the middle of England where she currently juggles being a full-time writer with being a mother/referee to two little people. In her spare time (and when she’s not camped out in front of the laptop) you’ll most likely find LA immersed in a book, escaping the chaos that is life.
