Character Interview
1) Tell us a little bit about yourself--both something we learn from [the story] and something that readers might not guess?
My name is Liz Adams. After my husband cheated on me, I moved from Atlanta, Georgia, to Charleston, South Carolina to pursue my dream of becoming a private investigator. When I visited Charleston, I fell in love with the city. After my divorce, I needed a change.
I met my best friend, Peg, shortly after I moved in. Actually, my Labrador retriever puppy, Duke, introduced us. She’d been sitting on the fountain’s ledge in the park, resting after a hard run. Duke, spotting another spot to swim and play, lunged forward, jerking his leash from my hand. He ran straight toward Peg and leaped into the water, spraying murky water all over her. When we exchanged contact information, we discovered I was the new neighbor in her townhome community.
Imagine my surprise when six years later, Peg’s dead, and I wind up being one of the prime suspects. With the help of Duke, who has the ability to detect when people are lying, we solve the case.
2) How did you first meet your writer?
I met my writer over fifteen years ago when I woke her up with the opening lines in chapter one. Trust me; it took a lot of prodding to get her to finish the book. When a big birthday loomed, she finally got serious. Do you know what it’s like to be stuck at the same age for fifteen years?
Now she’s writing the second story, Carmel Conundrum, at breakneck speed (well, for her at least). Spoiler alert, I get in a lot of trouble while visiting my love interest, Brad, and solving my next case with my sidekick, Duke.
3) Want to dish about him/her?
She gets her story ideas while journaling or in the middle of the night. She’s obsessed with Post-it notes and gel pens. Oh and get this, she writes on one of the walls in her workspace. She painted the wall with some kind of special paint.
4) Why do you think that your life has ended up being in a book?
That’s a hard question. My writer’s mission is to deliver a delightful story to readers of all ages while benefiting a larger community. She donates a portion of the proceeds from the sales of the Conundrum books to causes that support the homeless, both people and pets. Maybe that’s why I live in a book, to entertain and help others.
5) Who's your favorite character? Why?
Well, of course, my dog, Duke.
I love all my neighbors. Lou’s a hoot, and our trip to Paris to meet Peg’s boyfriend (who she kept a secret) is memorable.
Jenny, Peg’s niece, has a special place in my heart.
A couple of love interests, Brad and JP. You have to read the book so you can meet everybody!
6) Who's your least favorite character? Why?
Definitely Peg’s ex-husband Alex. He threatened Peg! The crusty old cop, Sam, who’s convinced that I murdered my best friend, is next on the list.
7) What's next for you?
Carmel Conundrum is set to release in early 2023. After that, I heard rumors that I’m traveling to the Cayman Islands and Colorado.
