Character Interview
Character Name: Cassie McGuire
1) Tell us a little bit about yourself--both something we learn from [the story] and something that readers might not guess? I’m a young widow. I certainly never expected my life to look like this at only 40, but here I am! My mom and I (since we both lost our husbands), decided to make lemonade out of lemons and move to a new town for a fresh start. I never expected to run into the difficulty we got when we moved into Whispering Manor in the seaside town of Hideaway Bay. I love animals, so I’m really happy we adopted a homeless one-eyed cat when we moved here. Here’s something readers may not guess about me: I’m a Wrangler fanatic! I’d never drive anything else!
2) How did you first meet your writer? Through a mutual friend! My mom, Lily, is friends with her mom! They’re both graphic designers!
3) Want to dish about him/her? I’m not sure there’s much to tell. Nellie’s a busy lady with a full-time job, authoring on top and a rescue pet home. Fun fact, Nellie has 14 pets (6 dogs and 8 cats). She takes care of animals who have been abandoned or abused and rehabilitates them (physically and emotionally) so they can live a happy, healthy life after getting out of a bad situation.
4) Why do you think that your life has ended up being in a book?
If you read the end of the book, you’ll know why! It’s not many people who have a claim to fame like my mom and I do.
5) Who's your favorite character? Why? Willy! I love cats. And I couldn’t help but fall in love with this little one-eyed character. Despite the troubles he’s had in life, he’s a happy little fellow who now has the chance to live a great life. Fun fact: Nellie has a cat almost exactly like Willy (one-eyed tuxedo cat), but his name is Percy.
6) Who's your least favorite character? Why? I’m still not convinced I’d love Clifton if we ever had the chance to meet. I know my mom has this whole romantic idea of him, but… a pirate, really? Come on!
7) What's
next for you? I hope my mom and I will have the
chance to travel! I’d love to see some
of the places up and down the coast with a similar history of pirates and other
legends. Who knows, maybe we’ll actually
find a ghost this time!
About Ghosts, Lore & a House by the Shore
A new town. A haunting legend. New beginnings or the beginning of the end?
After Cassie MacGuire’s husband dies in a plane crash along with her father, both her and her mother, Lily Bennett, are left as widows. Looking to make a new start, they move together to the quiet seaside town of Hideaway Bay. But their new home, Whispering Manor, has a reputation stretching back centuries. Legends of ghosts, paranormal disturbances and pirate treasure are all associated with the former sea captain’s mansion, starting with the death of its first mistress, Henrietta Blanchard.
When Cassie stumbles upon Henrietta’s journal and Lily uncovers a more recent tragedy in the home, they begin to wonder if the stories may be fact instead of fiction. When the strange occurrences turn dangerous, Lily and Cassie will have to investigate to save their home and possibly even their very lives!
Ghosts, Lore & a House by the Shore is the charming first installment in this small, seaside town mother-daughter cozy mystery series by Nellie H. Steele.
