Blog Tour, Guest Post, Review, & Giveaway for A Tangle In The Vines by Anna Celeste Burke

Meet Marlowe From The Calla Lily Mysteries!

Meet Marlowe who, according to his mama Lily Callahan, is a “ten-pound Min Pin with the heart of a hundred-pound wolf.” Marlowe is named for Raymond Chandler’s noir detective, Philip Marlowe made famous by the iconic Humphrey Bogart.

One of the characters in the ensemble cast in my Calla Lily Mystery series, Marlowe’s every bit the star! Not unlike Lily Callahan who had a starring role in a long-running soap opera, Not Another Day—until her character was killed off by the show’s producers. When Lily returns home to California’s wine country after her Aunt Lettie dies, she’s cast in a new role as the owner of the Calla Lily Vineyards, Winery, and Playhouse.

As her loyal canine companion, Marlowe has a variety of new roles to play, too. A smart, attentive little dog, he doesn’t miss a thing. That’s good because there’s plenty going on from the moment that he and Lily set foot in the Calistoga community up valley from Napa. That’s not just what goes on in the world of vineyards and wineries, but murder and mayhem.

With his energetic, inquisitive nature, Marlowe’s a natural “watch dog”, and monitors the comings and goings of Lily and her friends. By friends, I mean one of Aunt Lettie’s oldest and dearest friends, Judy Tucker. A tough, hard-working, independent woman she’s run a large ranch and family farm for decades. Marlowe’s also on alert watching out for the members of Lily’s “diva posse.” The posse includes four of Lily’s closest women friends who travel from Hollywood to wine country to help Lily deal with the death of her aunt and decide to stick around for a while.

Then there’s Deputy US Marshal Austin Jennings, hunk extraordinaire, who rushes in to save the day when Lily’s homecoming is met with a blistering hail of bullets. A perfect “adventurous canine companion” to the dashing lawman, Marlowe’s no slouch when it comes to defending Lily. He takes matters into his own “paws” on more than one occasion when life in small-town California turns out to be a tangle of mystery, suspense, and intrigue. He uses his heart of a wolf to defend Lily and her friends—not quite an “attack dog,” but he can send a bad guy packing!

Marlowe’s also a true “doggie pal” to Darjeeling, a tiny, teacup yorkie who comes to visit with one of the divas as her momma. When trouble comes to the Calla Lily Vineyards, Marlowe’s steps into the role of a “comfort dog,” and turns out to be especially good at that with kids.

I can’t wait for you to meet Marlowe and all the other characters in this series. The mysteries are fast-paced and suspenseful. In addition to a darling pooch, there’s the gorgeous wine country setting, romance, humor, and food, too—including recipes. I hope you’ll read the books, Lily’s Homecoming Under Fire and A Tangle in the Vines and tell me who you believe steals the limelight.

There’s more to come for Lily, Austin, Marlowe, and their friends. In Fall’s Killer Vintage, the Taste of Napa Challenge turns out to be more challenging than anyone ever imagined. One of the wines entered in the competition is more than a little disappointing when it turns out to be a killer vintage. When one of Aunt Lettie’s old friends becomes a suspect, Lily is soon caught up in the mystery. Is the murder of a federal judge about a rivalry among vintners, or is someone out for revenge?

 REVIEW
*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.

What an intriguing way to start off a book. Calla is digging into a plugged up storm drain pipe during a horrendous storm that shows no signs of relenting. Others are pitching their efforts else where doing what they can. Just before she is about to hand the task over the plug suddenly releases with quite a few surprises with it. Covered in nasty stinky slime Calla sees all sorts of remains have tumbled out. Looks like the work of serial killer making for an interesting investigation to say the least worked in around the demands of the play. Add in a side mystery as well to really round out the story and you will find yourself hooked wondering what clue will pop up next. Well developed characters each playing a part makes it even more fun. Makes for a great cozy read making it perfect for fans of the genre. Wine lovers should appreciate it as well since it is set in the middle of wine country. I really liked it so I give it 4/5 stars.

An award-winning, USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling author, I hope you’ll join me snooping into life's mysteries with fun, fiction, and food—California style! Life is an extravaganza! Figuring out how to hang tough and make the most of the wild ride is the challenge. On my way to Oahu, to join the rock musician and high school drop-out I had married in Tijuana, I was nabbed as a runaway. Eventually, the police let me go, but the rock band broke up. Retired now, I’m still married to the same sweet guy and live with him near Palm Springs, California. I write the Jessica Huntington Desert Cities Mystery series set here in the Coachella Valley, the Corsario Cove Cozy Mystery Series set along California’s Central Coast, The Georgie Shaw Mystery series set in the OC, The Seaview Cottages Cozy Mystery Series set on the so-called American Riviera, just north of Santa Barbara, and The Calla Lily Mystery series where the murder and mayhem take place in California’s Wine Country.
