Blog Tour, Character Guest Post, Review, & Giveaway for Huh? Why? and Punch by Marc Jedel

Character Post from Megan Tran, niece of protagonist Marty Golden, in Huh? Why? and Punch.

Recently I caught up with Megan, the young niece of Marty Golden. Although Marty is the protagonist in my new humorous, cozy mystery book, Huh? Why? and Punch: A Silicon Valley Mystery, I thought Megan’s perspective might be interesting.

Marc (author): Hi, Megan. Thanks for talking to me.
Megan: Is this going to take long? I wanna go back into the pool.

Marc (author): Sorry about interrupting your vacation to Hawaii. What’s been the best part of your trip?
Megan: The pool—no, the shave ice—no, actually the pool after all. It’s this crazy huge pool with fountains, and slides, and secret hiding places. It’s amazing.

Marc (author): Pretty cool. Speaking of secret hiding places though, I understand you uncovered one of your own this week.
Megan: It was too scary at first—all those strange noises in the middle of the night. [Turns away from me to the pool] Hey! Wait for me. I’ll be right there as soon as I’m done with this stupid interview. [Turns back to me]. What did you ask me again?

Marc (author): Well, you mentioned the pool and shave ice as favorite parts of your vacation. Were there any bad parts?
Megan: Hiking through the woods to some dumb, old place. There were bugs everywhere. And it was super sticky and hot. And just when we got there, we had to leave again. [Then a huge smile breaks out on her face] Uncle Marty felt so guilty we got some shave ice and went back here to the pool again. [Picks up an iPad and starts fiddling with it.]

Marc (author): Sounds like you hung out with your Uncle Marty a lot this trip. How has that been?
Megan: What? [looking up] Oh, Uncle Marty. He’s fine. He tells dumb jokes but he takes us for shave ice and lets me eat cheeseburgers almost every day for lunch. And he didn’t tell Mom that Skye spilled soda all over her phone. I guess he’s okay.

Marc (author): Only okay? After what he did in my new book, Huh? Why? and Punch, I’d thought you’d say he was cool? It’s all about your uncle and you’re even in it.
Megan: [doesn’t look up from her phone]

Marc (author): Megan! My books. Have you read them?
Megan: Nah, I like to watch TikTok videos. Your covers are cool, though. Maybe I’ll read them some day. Are they all about me? You know they would be funny if they’re about me. And you’d have to pay me, right?

Marc (author): Yes, I’m sure a book only about you would be something all right. But these are adult books about your Uncle Marty and how he solves the mysteries while juggling his work, everything going on in his life, and avoiding getting killed.
Megan: Oh, sounds boring. Never mind then. I’m going to the pool now, bye! [Runs into pool while lifeguard blows whistle fruitlessly]

Marc (author): Well, I guess that’s all we’ll get from Megan today. My books in the Silicon Valley Mystery series are humorous murder mysteries. Silicon Valley is not your typical cozy mystery locale and Marty Golden doesn’t fit the normal profile of a mystery protagonist. Despite finding himself thrust into challenging situations, Marty isn’t exactly hero material. He combines wit, irreverent humor and sarcasm mixed in with nerdy insecurities, absent-mindedness, and fumbling but effective amateur sleuthing skills. With an active inner voice and not a lot of advanced planning, he throws himself into solving problems. Sometimes, he even succeeds.

Huh? Why? and Punch, book 5 in the series, can be read standalone but they’re probably even more fun to read in order. All the books in the series are available as ebook and paperback, and also free for Kindle Unlimited readers. Buy them on Amazon at: http://getbook.at/SiliconValley or get the first three released as audiobooks by Tantor Audio everywhere audiobooks are sold. REVIEW
*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.

Welcome to another humorous adventure with Marty and his family. This time he is going on vacation to Hawaii. Along for the ride is his girlfriend, sister, nieces, kids, and his neighbor who happens to offer a free hotel stay with her family. Things start with with a bang as they arrive to find the cops there looking into a fall resulting in a death. Marty offers his assistance quickly pointing out that things look a tad suspicious. Looking into a murder while also trying to relax leads to some interesting situations and when you add in the eclectic list of characters it really gets fun. Makes for quite the fun cozy read that is sure to be enjoyed by fans of the genre. I really liked it so I give it 4/5 stars.

About Marc Jedel

Marc Jedel writes humorous murder mysteries. He credits his years of marketing leadership positions in Silicon Valley for honing his writing skills and sense of humor. While his high-tech marketing roles involved crafting plenty of fiction, these were just called emails, ads, and marketing collateral.

For most of Marc’s life, he’s been inventing stories. As he’s gotten older, he’s encountered more funny and odd people and situations. This has made it even easier for him to write what he knows and make up the rest. It’s a skill that’s served him well, both as an author and marketer.

The publication of Marc’s first novel, UNCLE AND ANTS, gave him permission to claim “author” as his job. This leads to much more interesting conversations than answering, “marketing.”

Like his character, Marty from the Silicon Valley Mystery series, Marc now lives in Silicon Valley, works in high-tech, and enjoys bad puns. Like his characters Jonas and Elizabeth from the Ozarks Lake Mystery series, Marc grew up in the South and spent plenty of time in and around Arkansas.

Along with all his protagonists, Marc too has a dog, although his is neurotic, sweet, and small, with little appreciation for Marc’s humor.
