Character Guest Post:
Aunt Maggie from Oh Holy Fright,
Book 8 of the Pecan Bayou Series
Happy Holidays! I'm so happy to get to come and visit you. It's
important I get a voice in this guest post because in Teresa Trent's latest
Pecan Bayou mystery, Oh Holy Fright,
I shoot at a man.
You see, there's this
Christmas Creeper running around Pecan Bayou looking in all the windows.
He looked into Ruby Green's windows. If you don't know Ruby,
she's the owner of the Best Little Hairhouse in Texas and our town's fashion
and hairstyle guru. Old Ruby, she's been having some troubles of her own
finding herself in debt after a lifetime of doing hair. She says she didn't
expect to be cutting hair in her sixties. Shoot, she was cutting hair in THE
sixties. So, the creeper looked in on her, but
then he showed up on my street. It's just me and my son Danny here. A
woman must protect herself. By the way, that's my gnome on the cover of the
book. Isn't he great? I found him on sale. I have one of the best yard displays
in Pecan Bayou. Well, mine and Ruby's. She did hers on the history of hair.
Tough to pull off, but she did it beautifully.
Still, here we are at the holidays, and my dear Betsy is trying to solve a murder as well as shop, take
care of her kids, and work for that crazy editor of the Pecan Bayou Gazette,
Rocky Whitson. We have a big Christmas fair every year along with a Christmas caroling contest, a dance floor and the song
stylings of our very own barbershop quartet. Don't even get me started on
Lester Jibbets. He's in the quartet, and I
think he's sweet on me. At my age? He might be one of the most successful men
in town, what with his port-a-potty empire, but I still love my Jeeter, God
rest his soul.
I hope you all have a wonderful holiday, but I think I'd
skip the Pecan Bayou Community Festival. Enid Sanford will be singing "Oh
Holy Night," and if you've heard her
voice, you'll be calling it "Oh Holy Fright"!
One more thing—if you don't already know, Oh Holy Fright is
FREE on Kindle through Tuesday November 27!
