Blog Tour, Character Guest Post, Review, & Giveaway for Checked Out for Murder by Allison Brook

Evelyn Havers
CHECKED OUT FOR MURDER by Allison Brook

Readers of Allison Brook's Haunted Library mystery series know me as the ghost that haunts the Clover Ridge Library in Clover Ridge, Connecticut. While it's true that I died and left this earthly plane after falling one icy winter night in the library's parking lot, haunting is a bit harsh to describe my visits to the library. Of course I don't go around in chains making weird sounds and frightening the patrons. Rather, I'm a well-bred woman in my mid-sixties (one good thing about my condition is that I never age.) In fact, Carrie Singleton, the head of programs and events, and her little cousin Tacey are the only people who see me and communicate with me.

I help Carrie solve the many murder mysteries that seem to come her way. Having lived in Clover Ridge all my life where I'd worked as a library aide, I know most of the townspeople and some of their secrets. Also, being so much older than thirty-year-old Carrie, I'm happy share the wisdom I've acquired over a lifetime.

On occasion while working a case, Carrie has accused me of not being completely forthright and not telling her all that I know about a person or a situation. I can't say she's wrong, but I feel I have to protect the reputation of my relatives. If only so many of them didn't do things that required my discretion. But truth will out in the end, and you can read about their bad behavior in the Haunted Library mysteries.

And now I must return to the place where I stay when I'm not helping Carrie see to it that things run smoothly in the Clover Ridge Library, my favorite place in the world.

Carrie Singleton and Evelyn the ghost sleuth the slayings of a starlet and a star-crossed psychic in Agatha Award nominee Allison Brook's fourth Haunted Library mystery.

Daphne Marriott strolls into Clover Ridge and informs librarian Carrie Singleton that she's a psychic. But had she foreseen what fate awaited her, Daphne would have steered clear of the quaint Connecticut town. Evelyn, the library ghost, tells Carrie that there's more to Daphne than she lets on.

The mysterious woman grew up in Clover Ridge with her no-good dad, who apparently met his end at the hands of Daphne's brother, Billy. Still, Daphne proves a welcome distraction when Carrie's overbearing mother hits town. Mom's much younger husband, Tom, is in a movie that's lensing locally, and she's there to keep an eye on him: Tom's costar, sultry Ilana Reingold, is also his ex-fiancée, and there's no denying the chemistry is still there. Soon after mingling with the moviemakers at a meet-and-greet, Daphne is found dead.

Carrie and Evelyn investigate, assisted by bushy-tailed library cat Smoky Joe. But the suspect list could overflow the library shelves. Has Billy killed another relative? Is their long-missing mother involved? Or Daphne's mean ex-husband? Carrie's sure she knows who committed the crime, but can she bind together the clues before the culprit Dewey-decimates the town?
 REVIEW
*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.

This series just keeps getting better and better! This time we catch up with Carrie as she is bracing herself for her mother to be staying in town for awhile. Her stepdad is an actor in a movie being filmed there. This would be cause for excitement but his ex-fiance is also in the movie which ramps mom into high gear. This includes lots of drama to say the least. On top of that a physic moves to the area and wants to hold a library program to show what she can do. Carrie agrees becoming quite friendly with her in a very short time. Then the poor woman is found murdered. She grew up in the area and has quite the family history leading to lots of suspects. Carrie tries to stay out of it but her brother begs for her help. With the help of the ghostly Evelyn and the sweet Smoky Jo she manages to figure it out just in time. This makes for a wonderful cozy that book and cat lovers will truly enjoy. Full of fantastic characters in an adorable small town that readers would love to visit if the could. A must read for fans of copies with a library/ghost theme. I totally loved it so I give it 5/5 stars.
