Book five in the X-Ops series. This book gives us the story of Jason, the man that was injured before book one but is still friends with Landon, and Ivy's sister Layla. The two of them have been in love with one another since the met. The problem is that Jason keeps pushing her away because he feels inadequate due to his injuries and she pushes him away due to her shifter secret. This is a recipe for disaster that comes to a head when she gets sent on her first mission. While she is away Dick convinces Jason to be injected with the hybrid serum he claims in an effort to heal his back but really Dick is just manipulative. Thanks to some secret shenanigans he makes it though the procedure and then is sent off on his own mission in an effort to raise his hormones to the appropriate levels. Thanks to a douche bag partner he finds himself in hot water. When Layla hears about it when she returns she goes against orders to save him. Of course the two work great together but the whining was driving me a little crazy. Every time the book started to get good one or the other of them would whine some more going over the same things over and over and over again. I felt like a shrink before it was all over though I did enjoy the new developments in the arching story line. While I still enjoyed this book the whining lowered it so this one only gets 3/5 stars.
