Sweet Pea

Oh my gosh I can’t believe it oh my gosh I get to talk oh my gosh oh my gosh oh my gosh!

Okay … I’ll try to restrain myself so you can make sense of what I want to tell you. It’s just that I don’t often get asked to speak to people. My name is Sweet Pea and I’m a thirty-five-pound black dog with white feet. I do my best to make things known but sometimes people don’t even know I’m talking to them. They either ignore me or think I want something entirely different than what I’m saying. I look at the refrigerator and look up at them sometimes. How hard is it to figure out that I really, really want something to eat and who cares if I just finished my dinner?

But my new Person, Samantha, is pretty good about knowing what I want. She tries, anyway. Sometimes she gives me a hug instead of a Peanut Butter Delight (man, those things are good). Honestly, she hugs me more than I need but I know she means well.

Ever since my Person got killed in Samantha’s dog bakery Canine Confections, Samantha has been taking care of me. She brought me home to this big, fancy house and I didn’t even have to stay in a designated wing like at my previous owner’s house. Probably on account of the fact that there isn’t an annoying little dog at Samantha’s house like at the other house. Actually, Samantha and I live in a little house next to the big house. I think she calls it a cot or a cot idge or something like that. I really like it. It’s got soft carpet everywhere and the bed is big and roomy so I when I spread out to go to sleep, Samantha doesn’t get in the way from her corner of the bed.

It looks like I’m the taste-tester of her new dog bakery and I’m pretty happy about that. She tries to slip in some healthy things sometimes like carrots and blueberries, but mostly, I spit them out onto the floor and she makes it taste better before giving things like that to me again. I’m not sure if I get paid for this or if I just get free room and board.

All kinds of dogs come in to Canine Confections and mostly it’s good. Sometimes a little dog will be all scared and shaking. Like, what? I’m going to jump up into their Person’s arms and try to lick him to death? Geez.

I know who killed my Person and between you and me, I hope I never run into anyone like that again. Luckily, it looks like Samantha and Aunt Mary are going to take really good care of me and I’ll try to help them out too by eating their leftover food and being Samantha’s taster at Canine Confections.

The only thing is, I heard a rumor that our author Amy Hueston is going to introduce a cat in the 2nd book in the series. I don’t mind cats but I’m a little nervous about having to share my new home with someone who can swat at me any time he wants. I’m hoping we can all be friends. I mean, cats are nice, right? Not snooty at all? Super friendly? Please tell me they are …

Life is good for Samantha Armstrong. She left her cheating boyfriend, settled into her cozy cottage on her Aunt Mary’s Palm Beach estate and is finally opening Canine Confections, her dream dog bakery on the ritzy Worth Avenue.

But Samantha’s happy new life goes doggone crazy when Palm Beach resident and pastry shop owner Whitney Goodwin is found dead on Canine Confections’ floor, whisking Samantha into the middle of a murder investigation. The only bright spot is that she finds herself adopting Whitney’s loveable dog Sweet Pea.

As the killer strikes again, it’s obvious that the shopkeepers on Worth Avenue are the target. Samantha’s impatience won’t let sleeping dogs lie. She takes it upon herself to move things along by padding around town with Sweet Pea and sniffing out clues to clear her name and Canine Confections’ reputation—before it is too late …

Includes a recipe from Chef Sarah Deters at the test kitchen of Three Dog Bakery, the original bakery for dogs!

  REVIEW
*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.

what an adorable new cozy series this is! We meet Samantha as she is living in Palm Beach helping out her Aunt while also gearing up to open her brand new doggy bakery. The day of the Grand Opening she arrives early only to find the owner of a close by bakery dead on her floor. This derails everything and when the cops won't tell her anything she starts asking questions hoping to save her new business. Add in an adorable rescue dog named Sweet Pea on top of clues all over the place plus a few surprise twists to get a fun cozy that will make it easy to read your day away. A great fit for fans of cozies that have a strong animal element to them. I really liked it so I give it 4/5 stars.
